Double Up On Your Protection

I can remember when we talked about Trojans we were talking about the name of a condom. Now days Trojans are those nasty infectious  Malware who allows a hacker to take over your computer. The Trojan appears to preform a desirable function like a condom but instead makes your computer vulnerable.

This is how it works:

The sad truth is you don’t have to have personal  communication with the hacker in order to open yourself up to them. If you download something from a hacker. The following list of things could happen.

  1. i.e to preform spamming using your computer as the sender
  2. performing a DDOS (distributed denial of service) attack using your computer as the attacker, among 1000 others which are infected as well
  3. steal passwords, credit card information, etc.
  4. install software, malware, adware
  5. downloading or uploading of files
  6. modification or deletion of files
  7. keystroke logging
  8. viewing the user’s screen
  9. wasting computer storage space

I recently have been reading more about hacking and how it done and by whom it is done by. It would appear the violators are people out to make a fast buck from people who are naive to their intentions. If they aren’t after money they are after your identity and location. Maybe you have angered the beast and this is an act of retaliation. What ever the motive you are been hacked and you may be wondering who is responsible. The best way to narrow the odds down is by thinking back to what you have downloaded and who from.

Unfortunately, you don’t even have to sleep with the hacker to get infected with STD’s. A Trojan can get to you through someone sending you spam email or just downloading something that looks like an e-card but isn’t one.

Once you open it up you have been had.

hotty spammer and hackerHackers hit anytime but the holiday season seems to bring them out to party and pimp. Yes, like a party boy or girl looking for the next good time. While they are asleep or actually doing a legit job during the course of the day they have developed a means to hack into your computer and raping you.

But face it it isn’t generated towards one gender. Men get hit as hard as women if they don’t know what to look for. In most cases the sites vary that men and women visit yet both sexes are being victimized by phony sports or porno sites too shopping online and the downloads popping up that look sort of real but are photoshop images made to look like your computer.

If you get thrown off by this and download I hope your security and firewall can prevent them from entering. phonydirtygirls

In my case I had my husband and a couple of good friends who posted online security articles to protect myself. Men and women are both exposed to these hackers. Don’t let them get to you!

Do you have a story or tip to share with me.

I would love your feedback!

Hi Bunny,
This is suchan interesting read. I have been worrying about this issue too since i bought my new desktop pc recently. It came with the symantec antivirus software…but i still worry.
The one thing i learned a long time back was to always use a web based email…for work or personal use. This way the file email etc is not on your computer till you actually hit download..whereas in the in built email programs, you tend to download all the emails…yes sometimes even spam comes through.
And having a firewall does help too…but only to certain degree…after that its you and your downloads that decide if the virus or trojan can coem through.
Which is the best antivirus software according to you???? Please suggest….I am fretting losing data…cause am putting so much hard work into the ebook…wouldnt want to lose it to trojans…:(
Lots of love
Z

Hi Bunny, my blog got hacked several months ago and they placed malicious code in the html. It included hundreds of gambling URL’s which were only visable to the spiders. Soon, my site started ranking for gambling keywords, not exactly my niche. Thanks to Kristi at Kikolani, and Frank at TechJaws I was able to clean up the code. By the way, this has happened to several bloggers that we both know.

Jonathan ~

Kristi at Kikolani and Frank have been making me aware of this. Frank has been posting up a storm, bless both of them. Mike at HTS Tech is another site that is terrific.

It is so frustrating as you know.
Thank you so much for sharing.

I have always been wary of downloading something suspicious. Still, our best defense is back-up and an updated anti-virus. :-)

I kind of swear by Kaspersky. I’ve tried McAfee, Norton, and AVG. Kaspersky is the only one that will send me a message as I am on a website letting me know that it is infected with some kind of malicious script (and keeps the malicious script from infecting my PC). Kaspersky is also the software that alerted me to the fact that my own sites had been hacked months ago, without me having to wait for someone else to let me know or Google banning me from search results.

Hi Kristi,

I use advir and spybot. I should have felt lucky that it was caught but still very upset by it.

Thank you, for sharing this important information. I will check out Kaspersky.

My blog and computer got hacked a few months ago as soon as I switch from an (old) Mac to a PC. Uggh. Two business credit cards and my business banking debit card got hacked within two months. It took a while to get things straightened out.

Bunny,

Awesome article, you made be proud! I am a fan of AVG for many reasons, but Norton has improved their product immensely and I may change again.

Hi Bunny,

Imagine my surprise on coming to your website for the first time in a long time and I see a trojan condom. Made me laugh.

Anyhow, this was a wonderfully written article. And great marketing by the way. You sure moved me, and I am sure many other people, to think about their current protection, and how to improve it.

And I can’t resist saying this…

The best form of protection, as we know, is abstinence. Don’t download anything suspicious, open any suspicious email, or go to any suspicious website…

Cheers,
Jeremy

I’ve been there soooo many times… Running a servers farm is not an easy task and it gets you exposed, so you are a desirable target for hackers. Whenever I got hacked (it happened 3 times in ten years) I had nightmare days. And nights…

Trojans in computers are pretty nasty so backup is essential. Internet it’s an open space but that doesn’t necessarily means it’s safe. On the contrary. You need a lot of knowledge to be a safe cybercitizen.

My husband run the server, I never knew the what this would mean. He feels we are safe but I am scared. I read so much and that makes me paranoid, if you have the protection and insight you don’t need to worry.

Bunny,
it’s great to see you spreading awareness of these vicious little nasties. I have my computer protected by 4 different softwares: ESET’s NOD32 (virus scanner used by HP and IBM – you can get a 30 day free trial), TrojanHunter (which is awesome because it’s free), Spybot S&D (again, a great freebie), and AdAware (free version is great also).

All the best in remaining safe.
