It's A Bug's Life

Last week, around Wednesday: What a wonderful morning. We woke up four hours later than we wanted to. Rushed out of bed to start the day. I didn’t have anything pressing going on but Thumper wanted to finish up two jobs which included some coding. OK, lots of coding. Over our first coffee and tea, we booted up the computers.

I usually read while waking up. This morning I thought I would check on the blog since I thought I might write today. Well it was a shock when I went to her and this popped up:

database bug

You may have gotten a similar message if you were trying to access Bunny got Blog that day.

First of all Thumper hadn’t even tasted his first coffee and I took a sip of tea and booted up the desktop. Still not fully awake, I nonchalantly announced that Bunny is down, then  asking “is this going to effect your work, darling?”

Silence set in. then Thumper reached for the phone. I thought – I so pity the person who is going to pick up on the other end.

I sat surfing the web while he spoke to customer service. Thumper was told another customer had exceed a limit which caused the server to go down. So everyone sharing the server was out and we have absolutely no idea how long we have been down for. This was admittance from the person Thumper spoke to on the phone.

Modern technology – we depend upon it so much but it seems there are are still some bugs that need tweaking.

Speaking of bugs

Doggie BearI saw a flea on my arm this morning. Only one but now I am feeling imaginary ones everywhere.

I forgot to make an appointment with the veterinarian for Bear (our dog) to have a flea dip. Oh yes, I spent the morning changing the sheets and pad on the bed since he likes to sleep there. I vacuumed the bed and sprayed it and powdered him and he now has a new flea collar on. I gave him the pills packed in peanut butter and cheese balls. I am concerned I missed a flea so I will continue to spray until the bottle is gone and then get more. This is one of the downfalls of having pets.

So until our supply of flea killer is gone I will be spraying and vacuuming a few times a day. I put the other flea collar from the packet in the vac. Vacuuming doesn’t kill fleas and one adult flea can lay a massive amount of  eggs in a day. Tomorrow we plan on shopping anyways. Yes I will get more.

In the meanwhile, I am encouraging Bear and our cats to drink lots of water. Of course Bear also needs a flea bath. This will be an experience and no doubt, considering his size, it will be a workout.

If you are super concerned about fleas, use a mixture of baking soda and salt on your carpeted areas. We have hard wood floors and tiles and the furniture is leather – so the small rugs are out in the garage and I used a whole box of baking soda and salt on them. Bleach is good. You can use the powdered, no-chlorine kind too. I will use the steamer on them and use some bleach since it drys out the bodies of the fleas. I would rather have discolored rugs than fleas.

If this doesn’t work, I will pray for a sunny warm weekend and pest bomb the house. Caging up the cats and Bear while we gas the bugs.

And this concludes my random thoughts on bugs for today. It’s still morning and I am still sleepy and will go make some more tea now.

Your random thoughts on bugs has got me itching all over now. I HATE fleas with a passion – in fact any insect that acts as though it has a right to my blood with my permission. The second major thing I can’t cope with in life (after insects) is technology letting me down. I’ve had a few tech emergencies over the years and I just feel so HELPLESS.

So, in summary, thank you for making my day by reminding me of my two biggest fears in life. And making tea seems like a very good idea right about now.
LOL

Hi Ian-

Well see you aren’t alone here. :)
The bugs in technology are crazy I find them in the strangest areas. Like when I want to watch a simple movie on the computer and DVD wont play on it. So I have to watch it on the TV. Why DVD’s are made this way is beyond me.
Then server is down and effects work that is a huge inconvenience.

The fleas are gone, thank goodness! I am not crazy over any insects and I don’t like their attitude at all- I never invite them in to my home and I surely stay away from theirs ;)

Thanks for stopping by,
I think I will get another tea now.

One year we had a yard full of fleas for some reason. Had to spray the whole yard. That was about 15 years ago and I haven’t seen a single flea since.

Well our flea is gone and we haven’t seen any of her friends. The bugs in the server is another thing – down 3 times in a week which twice was in one day.

BUT- who is complaining ??? This is more of a sudden shocking disappointment. lol I think disappointments are only signs that better things are about to come.
