Sarah Palin: When Actions Speak Volumes

I was really trying to stay away from this topic. There are so many articles being written about the “New Age Annie Oakley” - Republican Vice Presidency candidate, Sarah Palin.

I find Sarah more of a Calamity Jane. She has certainly created a ruckus in America over the last couple of weeks. For instance, by telling people she represented all women.

Right. And the world is flat.

First, not all women have the power she has or the money. Not every woman has a husband that supports her career, stays at home and takes care of the kids, while she is promoting her political ambitions. Not every woman can get back to full-time work three days after giving birth to her child.

Family. Truly an issue in today’s world. Sarah Palin knows this and thus, uses her’s to up her popularity. If only her actions didn’t say the opposite of what she preaches - but they do, and well illuminate the fact that she uses her family as bate for her popularity - instead of showing some character and discussing her views on what is important. She fails to give anyone any insight on her opinions when it comes to dealing with such political issues as the environment, sex education, or foreign policy. On the other hand, which voter cares about political issues when they can watch cute babies instead?

Well, I do… And the expression comes to mind,

If you can’t dazzle them with your brilliance, then baffle them with bullshit.

Vote for Change

Obama’s keynote is indeed so successful and to-the-heart that the Republican Party needed to look for something they can compete with. Something to act on the same token.

This token turned out to be Sarah Palin. Granted, she is female… But is the gender what matters most? Or is it just, well, a superficial token for superficial voters.

Sarah Palin IssuesNot even her Alaskan fellows like her. In all fairness - when she arrived in Anchorage, AK earlier this week, she was greeted by a “Welcome Home” rally. That was nice, but it was by far not as popular and well-attended as the other rally that day, which took place only a few hours later in Anchorage: the “Alaska Women Reject Palin Rally”. In fact, this one was the biggest rally in Alaska’s history. The Huffington Post author AK Muckraker (his personal blog here) took some great shots of this and kindly let me use them - you can see some of his pictures throughout this post.

I mentioned above that Sarah Palin doesn’t like to talk about her politics. Putting the fact aside that I expect the opposite from the Vice President of the United States of America, we can look at her political actions instead, and try to find meaning in them.

Who Sarah Palin Really Is

Sarah Palin, the Republican Party’s candidate for the seat of the Vice President of the United States…

  • Has attempted to censor books. And to fire the librarian when they refuse to comply. How many politicians clean house right down to the town librarian after gaining power? Well, if the town librarian refuses to censor books at the library, I guess Sarah Palin would. Oh, wait, she already did
  • Has prevented proper education. In addition to an attempt to virtually burn books (remember what happened the last time that took place in history?), Palin also cut fundings for such cultural and educational institutions as a museum, and prevented a new library from being built. Instead…
  • Has built a 2,500 seat grand sports arena for a village of 6,000 residents. Palin was already on her second term as Mayor of Wasilla when she approved $14.7 million for a brand new, multi-purpose Sports Arena. And to make it even better, Palin didn’t even purchase the property before the structure was built - she simply built it - which added another $1.3 million in legal fees to the total cost, because the owner didn’t know what was going on with his land.
  • Has tryed to bypass the law, abused her power, and fired the Public Safety Commissioner when he refused to comply. There is this issue about Palin’s ex-brother-in-law, Trooper Mike Wooten. This case is already known as Troopergate and it involves some dirty things about what he supposedly did to the Palin family, his case being dismissed due to a lack of evidence, Palin approaching the Public Safety Commissioner and asking him to reopen the case, and firing him upon his refusal to do so. There’s a whole Wikipedia Page on Troopergate, read it if you can.
  • Has treated pre-electoral promises as “white lies”. After using an issue about a bridge (that voters wanted to be built but the political opposition did not) as a pillar argument in the political race for government of Alaska, and after winning that election, Palin dropped the bridge building program - but still accepted federal funding for it. Oh well, she did build a road in the vicinity instead.
  • Is yet another marionette of the NRA. And fired the Police when the lobby asked her to do it. Upon her election to office of the town Mayor of Wasilla, she told Stambaugh, the Police Chief at the time, that he was fired because the National Rifle Association (NRA) didn’t like him. Stambaugh didn’t want people to carry hidden guns around. The NRA did - and with Sarah Palin, they got their horse in the race.
  • Has raped rape victims even more. Under Palin’s reign as Mayor of Wasilla, sexual assault victims are charged $1200 for the necessary rape kit and care at the emergency room. A part of the procedure is the abortion pill to prevent an unwanted pregnancy by the rapist. But Sarah Palin is against birth control, even at that level. So the victim is again victimized by being charged up to one thousand and two hundred U.S. dollars for the mandatory treatment at the hospital. This Rape Kit includes necessary treatment such as the morinig-after pill and the extraction of the rapist’s semen.

It is o.k. that Sarah Palin chooses not to elaborate on political issues too much, because her actions seem do the job for her. Palin is the epicenter of a history of queer incidents and questionable morals.

Maybe McCain is trying to create a rape based economy.

Nice sum-up of some issues with Palin. These things are true, I think it is up to each individual to look at the facts rather than “follow the lips” of the protagonists or their promoters.

People need to stop looking at the surface when it comes to politics. They need to stop believing TV ads. It is important to understand that what is being publicized is marketing and nothing else. Speeches are crafted by professionals who have worked for months, if not years, to determine a certain set of keywords, key phrases and standard answers to any possible question or issue. It is seldomly the politician himself who answers; it’s almost always a team of people who have anticipated that answer.

The best example for this common practice is George W. Bush.

Many people would be surprised at how calculated everything is. It is up to each of us to determine whether we’d like to listen to soap operas or look at what really matters.

It is more important to know the facts and draw your own conclusion I believe.

Palin is shoving her opinions down peoples throats . It is her way or the highway! :)

I realize this was written back when Sarah mattered — but it was still a delight to read today. Very nicely said.
