Spam Bam - Thank You Mahem

Spammed, scraped and splogged - I can’t tell you how much I hate it! Bunny’s blog for business women just received a spam comment - one of the dirty, disgusting sort. Hopefully it wasn’t just one spam comment of a couple that havent been caught.

Eventually I will laugh about this, but it’s really annoying me right now. The spam comment I got linked to a blog that had scraped one of my posts and sprinkled links throughout the text - links to brothels. Yeah.

The Upside of Blogging

On the upside, I enjoy writing and sharing things. I love the interaction among fellow bloggers. Many of these people I would never have known existed until I came across their articles.

And my interest drew me back to their sites. As a new blog, I especially like sharing what I find with others. Featuring my new finds is a favorite article to write. I learn so much from both reading and writing, and I have expanded my interests when finding new blogs.

Bunny got Blog is something Thumper and I enjoy doing together. Sharing our life experiences and knowledge is great.

At first we were going to keep Bunny in the business world but as you see - she is very versatile. The desire to reach out with honest experience to let someone know they are not alone is gratifying, and when other contribute with comments that makes me smile from ear to ear.

I guess you might say since becoming a blog, Bunny has grown in many aspects of the blogosphere.

On The Downside

The feeling of intrusion when your site is spammed. When you have been scraped, it’s robbery. Personally, I hated being linked to the last two spam comments I got. A brothel and a sex toy site. Neither of which we promote! And these spam comments slipped through and for a short time, appeared in the “Latest Comments” bar to the right.

What makes me mad is that these spammers do this for a reason, and they seem to be getting what they want out of it. Considering spam has increased over the last years.

What they do is set up computerbots that find content with similar keywords to their splog, then they scrape those articles, put them on their sites (copyright theft), while linking to their other sites to push up rankings in Google. They are stealing our content and unfortunately, sometimes they are getting rewarded for doing so.

I Do Find This Humorous

Behind Bunny is an actual person/couple who has a wonderful life and career. I have never been associated with anything that is immoral or unhealthy. The articles featured on Bunny are ours, therefore no one has the right splog, spam, or scrape them.

Weighing the good against the bad, I will continue to write. Use what services that are availalbe to prevent Bunny got Blog from harm. When it happens, take a deep breath - hold it in, then exhale - and BAM! I hit spam!

Did you enjoy reading this post? Give some love back!

Hi Ross,

Yeah, what I hate is when they are so sneaky that akismet doesn’t catch them.

“I have never been associated with anything that is immoral or unhealthy.”

For your consideration: Your blog title arguably associates you with Sir Mixalot, who is considered by many to be immoral and/or unhealthy. In fact, according to the National Institute of Weights and Measures, he is considered to be obese by at least 1000 drams.

Discuss. (:

Pace,

Thanks for your refreshing comment. I feel obligated to tell you that it is in the eye of the beholder to assess the immorality of both his work and mine, followed by finding any parallels between the two - apart from the use of a rhetorical device such as an alliteration.

As for the health factor - consider the source. From the “About us” page of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Weights and Measures Division:

The Weights and Measures Division promotes uniformity in U.S. weights and measures laws, regulations, and standards to achieve equity between buyers and sellers in the marketplace. This enhances consumer confidence, enables U.S. businesses to compete fairly at home and abroad, and strengthens the U.S. economy.

I was not aware of Sir Mix-A-Lot’s importance for the U.S. economy. Thank you for pointing it out to us.

My dear Bunny,

I feel obligated to inform you that Sir Mix-A-Lot is integral, nay, a cornerstone of the U.S. economy, not to mention an influential force in measures standardization. In fact, I have inside information that a new unit of measure, the “mixalot”, is slated to be introduced as the new standard in the concrete mixing industry in Q3 2011.

Happy to be of service.
