Last week, when I wrote Earth’s Own Little Universe, I mentioned my interest in learning more about the science of astrology. I figured I would ask a friend who is very knowledgeable about this science. And today this friend, Dragos Roua, the author of the excellent blog The Choice of a Personal Path, is my guest on Bunny got Blog with a very interesting and, if I may say so, highly entertaining piece.
Astrology And Raincoats
by Dragos Roua
I’m into astrology and I don’t make a secret out of it. I started to learn it a few years ago and it proved to be one of the most helpful things I’ve done in my entire life. And that would be the exact point where you actually leave this blog, thinking almost out loud “another delusional guy, trying to sell us what he read on his cereal box in the morning. Well, thanks for staying that much, I appreciate it.
Oh, you’re still there? Are you sure? You don’t think your colleagues will make fun of you if you read this rubbish? You really wanna hear something about astrology? In that case, let’s do it.
What Astrology Is Not
Astrology is not going to make you win at the lottery. It will not find you the perfect match. It will not make you rich and happy. And, by all means, it will not give you super powers.
There is also a huge misconception about astrology which makes it really hard to understand: people often put it in the same basket with magic. Big mistake. Astrology is not magic either.
Most of the time, people go to astrologer when everything else failed. When the normal, scientific approach didn’t pay out. Well, believe it or not, astrology is not super natural either.
Well, if astrology is not any of the above, then, please, pretty please, with sugar on top, can you tell us what it is?
What Is Astrology
Astrology is just a context descriptor, nothing more. In this regard, astrology is a lot like meteorology. In all areas. You know meteorology has only a limited field of action. No one can predict exactly the weather for more than 1 week. Same with astrology, it cannot extend beyond your own free will. It’s just a context descriptor.
Ok, I heard you: “what’s a context descriptor?.
Let’s have a short example. Suppose you have to go to a business meeting in the morning. You just heard the weather man telling that it’s going to rain cats and dogs, but, for some reason, you decide not to take your umbrella. And you dress a little bit lighter than usual. The raincoat remains at home.
A few minutes later, you’re caught in a huge rain. No umbrella, no raincoat. And you have to go to that meeting, otherwise there will be consequences. Unpleasant consequences. So, you decide to go through the rain, get wet, be late and finally arrive at the meeting with a lot of excuses, a bad attitude and an almost inexistent focus. You strive to obtain a good result, but you can’t: your energies were already consumed in the struggle with the rain.
Now, imagine what would have happen if you would believed the weather man. First thing, you would have picked a raincoat, and perhaps an umbrella. Then, when the rain really starts, you aren’t surprised at all. You actually enjoy the rough energy and powerful vibration of a natural event, arriving at the meeting all dry, filled with that wild energy and ready to conquer the world. The other guy can’t do nothing but obey. You get what you want.
Now, what was the difference? The raincoat? Hm, maybe. Ok, yes, but not entirely. In both cases it was raining. In both cases you did exactly what you wanted to do: arrived to the meeting. But in the second case you actually understood how your context is going to be. You understood is going to rain. And you acted on that. The only difference was your attitude. Your approach changed the result of the meeting. The context was the same.
Is This Really Necessary?
Now, you understand that astrology is nothing more than another context descriptor, just on a different level. Many people don’t understand that level, or don’t want to accept it, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.
In our example, you would consider normal to get wet, to struggle in the rain and to get nothing from that business meeting. Blame it on the rain. It wasn’t you, it was that stupid rain. But if you would understand that context, if you would know how the weather is going to be, you would have done what you had to do in order to improve your experience. You would have taken some simple measures to protect yourself and to make your goal really simple to achieve.
The weather man is telling you it’s going to rain, nothing more. It’s up to you to believe him or not and it’s you who’s facing the consequences. Astrology does the same thing: is telling you that you are going to meet some specific conditions and you have to act accordingly. It’s up to you to believe it or not and it’s you, again, the one who’s facing the consequences. Astrology doesn’t create the result of your business meetings, you are deciding that. Astrology doesn’t make your daily schedule for you. You are the one who’s living your life.
Now, I feel another question and I think this is going to be a little more difficult: “if astrology knows the context so well, how come we still face difficulties in our lives?.
Yeap, that’s a good one. If astrology has this deep understanding of the Universe, how come we can’t live a perfect life all the time? How come we still can’t have all that we want? The answer is simple: we’re facing difficulties in life because we have to.
The tough situations are there for us to learn. In itself, a tough situation is simple, without polarization. It’s the resistance which creates suffering. A situation is just a situation and we just have to go through it in order to evolve. We have to struggle from time to time to build survival instincts. We have to face difficult situations to learn how to solve them. And, of course, we have to face “luck or “positive situations in order to learn happiness and joy.
And in fact, there is no such thing as “difficult. This is a human distinction. Nature is not difficult, is just nature. A rain is a difficult thing only because we’re rejecting it. If we could accept it as a lesson, or even more, as a natural manifestation of the Universe, we will be stroke with beauty and wonder.
Now, the bottom line is that you are the only one who is responsible for your life. Not astrology. Not your parents. Not even the weather guy.
And in most of the cases, living a simple and fulfilling life is just a question of picking the raincoat when you need it.
