I Remember 911

A Prayer For The USA

I pray for the survivors of the attack on September 11, 2001.
I pray for the families who have lost loved ones.
I pray for the rescue workers and police on the scene.
I pray for the doctors and nurses caring for the hurting.
I pray for the reporters who work through intense emotion to bring us the pictures and news of the day.
I pray for the President and other elected leaders who so desperately need wisdom from beyond themselves.
I pray for the pastors in Washington and New York who care first-hand for the spiritual needs of those who have experienced this great tragedy.
I pray for the military and intelligence agencies who seek to find out who would do this so they might be brought to justice.
I pray for our nation — that this event will bring us together and turn our thoughts toward helping each other to fight and VANISH the terrorism out of the world.
I pray for all those who might be tempted to think that violence accomplishes anything of lasting value. We’ve seen too much of it in the recent years.
Lastly, I pray for every peace lover in this world.
May God break the cycle of violence to make a difference for His Peace and Grace in this sinful world.
GOD BLESS AMERICA.

The Healing Prayer

God, we come to you a nation in pain.
Hate has wounded us yet again.
We watched in horror as men whose hearts were filled with hatred, destroyed the lives of thousands of innocent people.
But our hearts also swelled with pride as we saw hundreds of Americans, whose hearts were filled with love and service, sacrifice their lives trying to save others. The brave firemen, who marched undaunted into those burning buildings. Those co-workers who perished because they refused to leave the side of the paralyzed or the in firmed.
We find so much hope in their heroism.
Last week, our nation lost so many good people, and for years to come we will all hunger for their smiles, for their laughter, for their counsel, for their fellowship.
This tragedy has cast a shadow of fear and sadness over our nation and today we weep for the innocent who have left us.
We mourn for those who have been taken from us.
Those precious children on their first plane ride.
That father, in pursuit of his career.
That mother trying to keep her children clothed and fed.
That young professional trying to make ends meet.
When we think of them, we are overwhelmed by what seems like an unbearable sense of loss.
But God, help us to remember that just as every flower in a storm is safe with you, we know the innocent are safe also, God, in your care.
Because of your love we believe we will see our loved ones again.
Help us to remember that in our sorrow we do not weep alone.
You weep with us.

Where was I? I was at home getting ready for a job interview until I heard about the first attack over the radio while listing to a morning/music program. At first there wasn’t much information that came though. I figured it may have been a small plan, a Cessna, perhaps. Minutes later, (don’t remember how long) I heard about the second attack on the WTC and the attack on the Pentagon. The radio show was canceled to cover what was happening. At that point, I stopped what I was doing and turned on the TV. I could not believe what was happening. I cant explain what I was feeling when I was watching the news coverage and watching the plane hit the second tower over and over until both buildings collapsed…

Time stopped for me.

Darling Bunny,
A beautiful post. A needed reminder to help the souls we lost attain peace and freedom.
When i heard the news I dont remember what i was doing…but i know i was glued to the tv for 2 days. I couldnt stop crying….I didnt know anyone there…but in a sense i did know each and every one of them. It was one of the most excruciating pains i have ever felt in my heart. I stopped functioning…and kept reciting the quran and some duas. I didnt know what to do…a huge feeling of helplessness kept coming over me.
But today…as i remember and i pray for the lives lost….i feel like in my small way i am helping these souls.
Thank you for linking “Lost Souls” to this post Bunny. A lot more people praying will help immensely.
Lots of love and huge hugs to you.

Hi Carla.

I wrote about my experience on September 11,2001 in the article.
It was pretty scary for me since I had to stop by for a brief appointment at a prison and instead of meeting at the administration building I agreed to meet in the the client inside the prison. Usually I was accompanied by a male team worker but not this day.
Going into a maximum security prison alone wasn’t something I looked forward to.It is a scary experience for a woman. After getting admission from the guard that checks credentials and then takes mirrors to look under your vehicle then gives you a pass. I drove in and made my way in to the enormous prison.Inside had to walk threw a metal detector and signing in again waited for the gentleman I was to see then was told I had to leave because the prison was going to be locked down in five minutes. Once out side the door I literally ran to my car and almost drove past the guard where I had to sign out again. I then found out that we had been attack. I drove a short distance fumbling with the radio and then pulled off the road to listen to the news.I called my parents and girlfriend to check on them. Then I called the office and had someone cancel my appointments and managed to drive home. That drive was a blur.
I was stuck to the TV once I got home.

Hi Zeenat,

I don’t think I cried until I saw the Towers hit on TV. I was still in shock.
I couldn’t believe this had happen in my country. It was a huge awakening that we could have this happen to us, the United States. I know, that may not make sense to those who lived through war in their own country and to those who are still living through it.
I am very Patriotic and proud of this country maybe don’t agree with the politics all the time but our history is a beautiful epic based on freedom and justice. Many men and women have died to make it possible for me to live the life I do. Many men and women have died trying to ensure the possibility to know the freedom we have here.
Your article is a true spirit of the world and how it should be.You touched my heart and I felt overwhelmed that YOU, my dear friend could write these words as tribute to my home land and to the souls who have lost their lives needlessly and for the sake of others to have freedom. They are our angels, they are our heroes, our legends.
I value our friendship so much. I think it is wonderful that YOU are often the wind beneath my wings.
Love you xoxo

I was home when it happened. It’s odd because I seem to have an odd sixth sense when something really tragic is either about to happen or has happened. I work for myself, and on that day I woke up really early and just couldn’t get back to sleep.

So I was sitting at my desk working on my book when the phone rang and it was my mother saying a plane had hit the tower. I turned on the TV to NBC News and saw a plane hitting the tower, and said to Mom “They’re showing it again.” She said “No they’re not, that’s a different plane.” Then I knew something was up.

The same thing happened to me both days of space disasters and the day of the Oklahoma City explosion. Freaky, eh? I don’t need that happening in my life anymore.

I was home too when it happened. Though I am like on the ohter isde of the world, I was shocked and everything when it happened. I just saw the North Tower already smoking but then I’ve watched live the ohter plane crashed into the South Tower…really unbelievable. I actually wrote my own short piece about 9/11 on my blog.

It was surreal for me. It was too much loss, too fast, and it was an inflection point.

I was at work and people were standing around staring at TV screens and I went up to see what was going on. Right when I walked up they showed a plane flying into the second tower.

Thanks for all the lovely thoughts!

Great prayer and post.

I visited the Twin Towers two weeks before it happened. I went up to the top, walked around outside and took a bunch of pictures and then two weeks later I was watching the news in the morning when the “Breaking News” came on.

I felt so horrible for those people and my thoughts kept flashing back to when I was there.

Hi mitch,

A sixth sense must be something hard to deal with. I am glad you shared this. I think it is interesting but still hard for the people with have the gift.

Stephen.

I think it is important, especially on these events that we share and are together in anyway we can be supportive to each other and all the families that lost loved ones.

Hi John,

The Towers were so much a part of the history and of course the scenic view of the city. It will never be the same for us.

Thank you for stopping by and sharing.

Yes, I agree. It is still very sad.

Hi Kelly,

You know it is still hard to believe it to this day for me. It was more mind blowing when I finally saw the aftermath on my first visit home.

When you take something for granted that has been always been part of the scenery ever since you could remember being replaced by Ground Zero, was horrific for me.

I had seen it on TV but the realization and full emotional impact took place at the site.

Thanks for stopping by and sharing.
