The Pineapple - And A Natural Fruit Shake Recipe

Years back, the colonists made the pineapple a sign of hospitality or wealth. Decorating the home with carved pineapples out of wood, painted china and pottery, and embroidered linens was associated with wealth. It was also customary to bring a pineapple as a gift when visiting. Whether the host cut it and served it to their guests or made a natural pineapple fruit shake out of it I can’t tell you though.

I just wanted to add that little historical fact about pineapples but here are some more facts about the nutritional values and uses of this tasty fruit.

Pineapple Facts

The pineapple is an absolutely delicious fruit. It can be used in various ways, for example making grilled pineapple on the BBQ to tenderize meats. It has vitamins, minerals, enzymes and fiber that are all great for the digestive system, and it’s an excellent source of Vitamin C.

The pineapple does has a small percentage of fat and sodium, but no cholesterol. Just like the mango (take a look at my mango fruit shake recipe) and the blueberry (blueberries-anti aging effects), the pineapple is very nutritious for you, and surprise, it is also a natural aphrodisiac! Suggestions to enhance this are eating it with cayenne pepper or mixing it with rum and honey.

Here you can find out about the nutritional facts of the pineapple.

How Can You Tell If You Are Buying A Ripe and Fresh Pineapple?

Well the leaves should be dark green and the fruit firm and plump, with a strong pineapple aroma. Don’t buy the fruit if there is any discoloration on it or bruising. This could have an effect on the color of the fruit under the skin. Never buy the soft and spongy type, you won’t enjoy cutting pineapples like that.

I have added a healthy smoothie recipe for you to try. I am adding it to my list of natural fruit shake recipes, and I hope you enjoy it!

How To Make A Papaya-Pineapple Smoothie (Recipe)

  • 1 cup diced and peeled frozen or fresh pineapple
  • 1 cup diced, peeled and seeded papaya
  • 1 cup ice cubes
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened pineapple juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 fresh papaya slices (for garnish)
  • 2 fresh pineapple slices (for garnish)

Combine the pineapple, papaya, ice cubes, pineapple juice, and vanilla in a blender. Puree until smooth. Pour this healthy smoothie into 2 glasses. Top each smoothie with fresh papaya and pineapple slices and serve!

Granted, cutting pineapple is an experience but if the knife is sharp it isn’t that much of a deal. So I thought I’d provide you with a video about that too, also to remain consistent as I already showed you how to cut a mango before.

Now what can I say more other than go and finally enjoy your delicious, healthy and absolutely natural pineapple fruit shake!
